Melaka

Beaches in Melaka not only lay a legendary history, but also a place where fishermen’s income is. Pulau Besar is said to be a mysterious island as there’s a saying that says the island is formed after a pregnant woman who jumped into the sea after the death of her husband. As for Pantai Kundur, it seems to be a popular spot for tourists and also locals for swimming and picnics as well as an important spot for night-fishing.

Located near Umbai and 10 km south of Bandar Melaka, Pular Besar or ‘ Big Island' is a mysterious island that has many fables and legends behind its origin. Some say that the island resembles the shape of a pregnant woman, due to a story that a princess who, heart-broken because of her husband's death, jumped into the seas and consequently, her body floated and took the form of an island. As she was pregnant at that time, Pulau Besar, with a landscape resembling a belly, was born.

Tanjung Kling
Tanjung Kling

The beach of Tanjung Kling is one of the more recent developments of the Melaka tourism industry. Located 15 km away from Melaka Town, Tanjung Kling is a pleasant stretch of white beach lined with coconut palms and sea shells, perfect for a quick jaunt. One kilometer away lies the grave of Hang Tuah, the legendary Malay warrior.

Pantai Kundur
Pantai Kundur

Pantai Kundur is fishing village located about 17 km from Melaka Town. It’s a one of the favourite tourist spot for swimming and family picnic. Pantai Kundur best known for its night-fishing, where fishermen would suspend their nets from poles near their kelong and periodically lower them to net a passing shoal.

Tanjung Bidara
Tanjung Bidara

Tanjung Bidara is a popular beach among locals and foreigners. Located between Melaka and Port Dickson, this destination is calm and well tuck away from the busy road. The sandy beaches are pleasant with abundant greenery. Along the beach, visitors can find food stalls, parking lots and children paygrounds. Those wishing to stay longer can find accommodation at nearby chalets at Tanjung Bidara Resort.

Pulau Upeh
Pulau Upeh

Pulau Upeh is located near Klebang town in Melaka. During the War, it was used as a scouting point for invading ships in the Straits of Melaka. Also the island was often a nesting ground for pirates. Of course, the pirates have now long been cleaned out, and today, Pulau Upeh is a peaceful getaway for locals and tourists. There is a resort and water-sport facilities are available. Visitors can also visit an ancient well and view relics from World War Two scattered around the island.
