Melaka

Famous for its satay celup and chicken rice ball that most locals would crave for, it’s really worth a try if you happened to go there for a holiday. There are a few shops selling these specialties so make sure you go to the right shop selling the most traditional ones. Besides that Masjid Tanah Cendol is also worth the try. If you have not tried cendol before, cendol is a dessert where thin grub-like green flour is added with redbean and topped with shaved ice and coconut milk.

Located at Lorong Bukit Cina, the restaurant’s main highlight in Malacca is their infamous satay celup. Being the outstanding one among all satay celup shops, it is also the first satay celup in Malacca. The restaurant own by Low Yong Cheng’s family, started the business since the mid of 1950s where his grandfather is the founder. The business begin with only a tricyle next to Capitol cinema and this is how the name of the restaurant came from when Yong Cheng took over.

Masjid Tanah Cendol

Cendol is a dessert where thin grub-like pieces of green pea flour together with sweet red bean covered with shaved ice and thick coconut milk, a dessert that most locals like. The dessert is served in a cup and it tastes so sweet that you definitely will go back for it!

Satay celup, a similar dish to Chinese called ‘Lok Lok’ is a special dish that can only be found in Malacca. Assorted raw and semi-cooked seafood, meat and vegetables, skewered on sticks are boiled in water and then dipped in a special satay sauce. A favourite among the locals.

A variety of meat to choose from, this famous satay stall can be found in old Jonker Street where their meat varies from pork, chicken, liver and intestine. The dish comes together with ketupat rice, sliced onions and cucumber. The meat is grilled and is slightly burnt at the edge, letting it a little bit crispy and tastes sweet and spicy from the crushed peanuts, aromatic roots, spices, shredded pineapple and belimbing.
